Here’s what’s happening around the neighborhood this week!

COMMUNITY NEWS

New Marshall’s location is open
Arrowhead shoppers have a new place to hunt for deals! A brand-new Marshalls location opened yesterday, August 20th, next door to Trader Joe’s on Bell Road, adding another major retailer to the busy Bell Road Corridor shopping scene. (map)

Cajun Crab coming soon
Seafood fans have something new to watch for near Arrowhead Towne Center! The Cajun Crab is coming to the former Crab N’ Spice location in Glendale, bringing another Cajun-style seafood boil option to the Arrowhead area. We'll keep an eye out for an opening date and more details. (map)

Circle K at 67th & Loop 101 is closing
Per a sign posted on the front door of the Circle K location at the northeast corner of 67th Ave & Beardsley, in the Safeway shopping center, September 14th will be there last day. Rumors are swirling in a post in the Everything Arrowhead Facebook Group about this location becoming a future QuikTrip store, but I have been unable to locate anything definitive.
Can’t say I’m excited to have yet another construction project in the heart of Arrowhead Ranch, however, this Circle K location is quite small and a ton of traffic goes by each day, so I am not surprised to see it may be redeveloped into something else.
Loop 101 current and upcoming closures and restrictions
Upcoming closure
Eastbound Loop 101 will be closed between 51st and 27th avenues from 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, to 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24.
The eastbound Loop 101 on-ramps at 75th, 67th and 59th avenues also will be closed.
DETOUR: Drivers may consider using eastbound Union Hills Drive or Bell Road to connect with I-17, or access eastbound Loop 101 at 27th or 19th avenues.
The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan for the following closures as part of the Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway) widening project.

Activity at the old Whataburger?
A new fenced has gone up around the former Whataburger location near Home Depot at 67th Ave & Bell Road. I’ve not been able to find any new info on this location, so what I was hoping was construction fencing appears to only be for security reasons.

BEST OF ARROWHEAD
What is Best of Arrowhead? It will be a collection of my favorite restaurants, individual dishes, local businesses & all sorts of cool stuff that makes Arrowhead Ranch the best neighborhood in the northwest valley.

I’m starting off this new section of the newsletter with one of my favorite dishes here in Arrowhead. The shrimp & calamari appetizer at Headquarters Grill Bar Sushi is one of the more unique dishes I have come across in our part of town. Fresh fried seafood is tossed in a sauce which is a mix of sweet thai chili & buffalo sauce, and it delivers a nice hit of sweet & spicy flavors.
“Headquarters Grill Bar Sushi, part of the hq group, is proud to always be ahead of the game. We’re an upbeat, energetic American grill in P83. Our menu sets itself apart with its variety, featuring everything from tried-and-true classics to fresh, hand-crafted sushi. We live and die by the mantra “always fresh, never frozen,” so you can bet your meal will always be bursting with delicious flavor. With a full bar, 32 taps, and 60+ HDTVs, we’re the perfect spot to unwind and catch a game.”
Headquarters is located directly across from the Harkins Arrowhead 18 theater in Peoria. Learn more & see their menu at HeadquartersAZ.com
