COMMUNITY NEWS
From 100 Degrees to Tropical Storm Rain? Welcome to October in Arizona!
Just when we thought Arizona's weather couldn't get any stranger, a former Pacific hurricane is getting involved in our weekend plans!
Tropical Storm Rachel, which was previously a hurricane, is expected to send a surge of tropical moisture into Arizona this weekend, where it will combine with another approaching storm system. The result could be several rounds of rain, thunderstorms, gusty winds, and a pretty dramatic cooldown across Glendale, Peoria, and the rest of the Valley.
Saturday brings increasing clouds and a chance of afternoon and evening thunderstorms, but Sunday is shaping up to be the real weather-maker. Heavy downpours could cause localized flooding, particularly around washes, low-water crossings, and streets with poor drainage. Showers may linger into Monday before conditions begin clearing.
And here's the good news: After flirting with 100 degrees this week, afternoon temperatures could drop into the 80s over the weekend and even the upper 70s by Tuesday and Wednesday!
If you've got outdoor plans this weekend, keep an eye on the sky and have a backup plan. And remember, those normally dry washes can fill up surprisingly quickly during heavy rain.
