No new closures for the holiday weekend, just the long term off-ramp closure outlined below.
LONG-TERM RAMP CLOSURES
The westbound Loop 101 off-ramp at 51st Avenue will be closed for approximately 60 days beginning 11:30 p.m., Monday, May 19. DETOUR: Drivers may consider using the westbound Loop 101 off-ramp at 59th Avenue, then travel south to eastbound Union Hills Drive to reach 51st Avenue. The eastbound Loop 101 on-ramp at 59th Avenue will be closed for approximately 60 days beginning 11:30 p.m., Monday, May 19. DETOUR: Drivers may consider using eastbound Union Hills Drive to 51st Avenue to access eastbound Loop 101.
The highly anticipated, and delayed, new concept from Harkins Theaters, has yet to announce an opening date but they have begun the process of hiring staff.
BackLot will have a sit-down restaurant and bar, the state’s largest sports-viewing arena with full-service dining and stadium seating, a patio with lawn games, bowling, an arcade, virtual reality games, and party rooms.

Beginning next week on May 27th, the City of Peoria will be closing 83rd Avenue in both directions from Jomax Road to Happy Valley Road. The closure is due to construction of the new home community to the east, making sewer connections in the road. The closure will last until June 13th. (link)

The Foothills Recreation and Aquatics Center and the Rose Lane Aquatics Center, will be opening this year on Memorial Day weekend! Starting Memorial Day weekend, join them for open swim on Saturday, May 24, Sunday, May 25, and Monday, May 26, from 1-5pm.

Task Force Archangel is hosting their 5th annual Memorial Day hike, honoring fallen soldiers. The hike will take place Monday, May 26th at 8am, at Thunderbird Conservation Park. (link)

Sky Harbor Airport will be getting its first nonstop flight to Asia. Taiwan’s Starlux Airlines is planning to launch a route from Taipei to Phoenix. Starlux plans to offer the flights three times a week starting in February. (link)
