My son Tyler is a connoisseur of chicken tenders, so it was only fitting that he tagged along to try the new Slim Chickens location on Happy Valley Road.

There are so many fried chicken chains here in Phoenix now that I don’t think there are any ways it can be done differently than the others, thus we were not expecting anything we hadn’t had before.

In a sense Slim Chickens is very much like Raising Cane’s. Their menu is small and focused on chicken tenders, but they do have a few more offerings than Cane’s, like chicken & waffles and some mac n’ cheese dishes.

Slim Chickens is what I have always wished what Cane’s would be. The chicken was fresh, and it was properly cooked! Most of the time we have been to Cane’s we wished they would cook the chicken just a bit longer. Well, Slim’s gets it right.

The other difference is in the sauces. Cane’s just has the one and it is excellent, Slim’s has a wide variety of their own house made sauces. I had the gravy and garlic parmesan, both were as I had expected, good but not wow.

I would say Slim’s is now our favorite and we would definitely choose it over Raising Cane’s.

Tyler had a vanilla milkshake and I stole a sip and it was excellent. He gave the chicken one thumb up.
