COMMUNITY NEWS

Two new restaurants at 29th Ave & Beardsley
While seeing a moving at the AMC Deer Valley theaters, I noticed there were a couple new restaurants in that shopping center, that I had not seen before. We stopped in to give them a try last week. You can learn more about them both in this week’s episode of the Everything Arrowhead Podcast.

Pickleman’s is open at the mall
Pickleman’s Gourmet Café is opening its first Arizona location at Arrowhead Towne Center. The Missouri-based chain offers sandwiches, salads, soups, macaroni bowls and thin-crust pizzas with a focus on fresh, fast meals. This new spot adds another convenient dining option for anyone looking for a quick lunch or an easy dinner near Arrowhead Ranch. (link)
Shwarmania AZ opens at 59th & 101
Shwarmania AZ is opening its first permanent restaurant in Glendale after building a strong local following as a popular food truck. The new spot brings its signature shawarma, wraps, bowls and fresh Mediterranean flavors to a full indoor location for the first time. They are a welcome addition for anyone who has enjoyed their truck around the Valley and for anyone looking to try something new here in Arrowhead. Find them on Instagram
Pizzicata Pizzeria Ristorante to occupy old Bottega space
The Venturini family and Phil Igneri are proud to announce the upcoming opening of Pizzicata Ristorante & Pizzeria — our 4th restaurant and 3rd Pizzicata location — coming soon to The Citadelle Plaza, in the space formerly home to Bottega Ristorante & Pizzeria. (link)
What you need to know about the Loop 101 this weekend
The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan for the following closures as part of the Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway) widening project:

NEW: North- and southbound 51st Avenue will be closed at Loop 101 from 10 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, to 5 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25.
DETOUR: Drivers may consider using the east— and westbound frontage road (Beardsley Road) to 59th or 35th avenues to get around the closure.
NEW: North- and southbound 31st Avenue will be closed at Loop 101 from 10 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, to 5 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25.
DETOUR: Drivers may use the east- and westbound frontage road (Beardsley Road) to 35th or 43rd avenues to get around the closure.
UPDATED: The southbound right-turn lane on 67th Avenue at Loop 101 will be closed from 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 24, to 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 27.
NOTE: The westbound Loop 101 on-ramp at 67th Avenue is currently closed for reconstruction. The westbound frontage road will remain open during this time.

Here’s what they covered:

ARIZONA TRIVIA
What was the original name of the main canal of the Central Arizona Project?
Last week’s trivia question was ‘Who operated a ferry on the upper Colorado river near Page until his execution by a firing squad?’
The answer was: John Doyle Lee
The man who operated a ferry on the upper Colorado River near today’s Page was John D. Lee, a Mormon pioneer whose isolated homestead became known as Lee’s Ferry. Lee ran the crossing with his family in the 1870s, helping early settlers reach northern Arizona. His story took a darker turn when he became the only person executed for the Mountain Meadows Massacre, a tragic 1857 attack on an emigrant wagon train. Lee was tried, convicted, and executed by firing squad in 1877, but his ferry site remains an important landmark along the Colorado River. (link)
