COMMUNITY NEWS
SNAP Benefits
Due to the ongoing federal government shutdown, Arizona families who rely on SNAP food assistance may not receive their November benefits until federal funding is restored. The pause could affect more than 850,000 residents statewide. Existing EBT balances from October will still work, but no new funds are expected to be added until Congress passes a budget. Governor Katie Hobbs has announced limited emergency aid for food banks, though it will not fully replace SNAP funding. Residents are encouraged to check balances, use available benefits and follow updates from the Arizona Department of Economic Security for the latest information.

ARIZONA TRIVIA
Which Northern Arizona hotel is said to be haunted by the ghost of a bellboy who still knocks on doors to announce room service, decades after his death?
Last week’s trivia question was ‘What was the original name of the Hoover Dam?’
The answer was: Boulder Dam
When construction began in the early 1930s, the project was commonly called Boulder Canyon Dam, after the proposed site in Boulder Canyon on the Colorado River. Even though the final location was moved downstream to Black Canyon, the name Boulder Dam stuck.
It wasn’t officially named Hoover Dam until 1930, when it was dedicated by then–Secretary of the Interior Ray Lyman Wilbur in honor of President Herbert Hoover, who had played a key role in organizing the Colorado River Compact.
However, after Hoover left office, the Roosevelt administration reverted the name back to Boulder Dam in 1933. It wasn’t until 1947 that Congress officially restored the name Hoover Dam, which remains today.

Pet of the Week

Meet Harper
This gal was found roaming around Eloy in a deserted area. Oh, and she was VERY pregnant! We got her to a foster home and one week later she gave birth. Once she gave birth a small mass was discovered in her lady parts. Harper is cancer FREE!!
Harper is a sweet, friendly, playful and silly girl! She loves her people, loves to play, and can't get enough of her toys. She is a snuggle, but also down to go for a long walk or hike. She is housebroken, dog door trained, leash trained, kennel trained and is VERY smart! She knows how to sit, shake, lay down, and roll over. She has lived in a foster home with small dogs, cats, kids, men, and women! She loves them all
Harper is Spayed, UTD on vaccines, microchipped, and 4DX (tick/heartworm test) tested. Harper is currently being treated for tick disease. This is very common in Arizona and is cleared up with medication.
Harper is approximately 2.5 years old and weighs 54 pounds.
Learn more about Harper and the other available pets at Paw Posse Animal Rescue.
We are partnering with Paw Posse Animal Rescue, and will be sharing a pet each week who is available for adoption. If you are thinking of getting a new pet, please consider adoption as a way to find your next best friend.
