Have you seen this primitive monument sign on 59th Avenue as you head north into Thunderbird Conservation Park?
If you’re like me you’ve driven past it numerous times but never stopped to see what it said.
The sign was built in 1957 to honor the memory of John F. De Bolt, who was a civic leader and advocated for the creation of Thunderbird Conservation Park, which was founded in 1952.
The park encompasses over 1,000 acres, which was purchased by the Rotary Club of Glendale, for the benefit of the City of Glendale. These efforts were sponsored by many local organizations including The Glendale Woman’s Club.
