Last week’s trivia question was ‘What is the name of the mountain peaks that are home to the Navajo & Hopi Gods?’

The answer was: San Francisco Peaks near Flagstaff

For the Navajo (Diné), the San Francisco Peaks are called Dookʼoʼoosłííd, one of the four sacred mountains marking the boundaries of their traditional homeland. For the Hopi, the peaks are also deeply sacred — they are considered the home of the Katsinamm (Kachina spirits), who travel from the peaks to bring rain and blessings to the Hopi villages.

Pet of the Week

We are partnering with Paw Posse Animal Rescue, and will be sharing a pet each week who is available for adoption. If you are thinking of getting a new pet, please consider adoption as a way to find your next best friend.

Meet Toby

Toby can't seem to catch a break. He was adopted for Maricopa County Animal Control as a puppy. He was returned several months later because he was resource guarding high value food/treats and they were having a baby. He also had a cloudy eye. What they didn't mention is that he was kept outside and had HORRIBLE allergies. Because of his health issues he was immediately put on the euthanasia list. He was a hot mess when we pulled him from county.

His first stop was the eye doctor. We needed to make sure his other eye was ok. We were told that his eye needed to be removed but the other one was all good. Next stop the vet for some allergy relief. We got him all fixed up and an appointment made for an eye removal. Toby's eye was removed and we also found out that he has Valley Fever. His Titer isn't very high so no meds at this time. He may need to be rechecked in a few months. Toby is under weight right now. His foster is working on putting some healthy pounds on him.

Toby's foster family loves him! He is very playful and loves to hang out with the kids. He loves his foster mom. He does have some resource guarding. We are working on that. He is recovering from his eye removal and we can tell he already feels better. Toby likes other dogs and walks on a leash. He would make a great hiking buddy!

Toby is approximately 1.6 years old and weighs 56 pounds.
