APS proposing another rate hike
Higher electric bills may be coming to our mailbox in 2026, courtesy of a proposed rate hike by APS.
Arizona Public Service (APS), the state’s largest utility, has proposed a 14% electricity rate increase that could add about $20 per month to the average residential bill starting in July 2026. APS says the hike is needed to cover rising costs, wildfire-resistant upgrades, and energy demands from metro Phoenix’s growing data centers and longer, hotter summers.
Attorney General Kris Mayes blasted the proposal as “outrageous,” pointing to APS parent company Pinnacle West’s $609 million profit last year. Public hearings are scheduled for early 2026 before the Arizona Corporation Commission, which must approve the increase. Mayes will formally oppose the plan on behalf of consumers.

ARIZONA TRIVIA
Last week’s trivia question was ‘What is the smallest incorporated town in Arizona, with a population of just 296 people?’
The answer was: Winkelman
Winkelman, the smallest incorporated town in Arizona, was founded in the early 1900s along the banks of the Gila River. The town grew up around the copper mining boom that shaped much of southern Gila and Pinal counties, serving as a hub for miners and ranchers alike. Its name comes from Peter Winkelman, a local landowner who played a key role in establishing the community. At its peak, Winkelman bustled with railroad activity, farming, and smelter operations tied to nearby Hayden. Though the mines have long since slowed, the town remains a reminder of Arizona’s copper-rich past, with fewer than 300 residents keeping its history alive.

Pet of the Week
We are partnering with Paw Posse Animal Rescue, and will be sharing a pet each week who is available for adoption. If you are thinking of getting a new pet, please consider adoption as a way to find your next best friend.

Meet Eddie
Eddie's fosters have nothing but wonderful things to say about Eddie. He sleeps in a czoomieson the bed at night ha ha! It's his dog cave! He walks on a leash and is kennel trained. He is shy at first but warms up once he gets to know you. He loves to hang with his people. He does get the zoomies and runs around the kitchen!
This little cutie has had it rough. Prior to being surrendered to us he had been hit by a car. His owner did not get him any vet care, because of that he has a funny walk and occasionally his left leg gives in. X-rays showed a healed fracture in his left leg. He has a luxating patella. The specialist couldn't say if it was from being hit by a car or something he was born with. He will have arthritis once he hits his older years but hey who doesn't! The specialist said that there is no sense doing the surgery to fix the luxating patella. The damage from being hit by the car has healed and there wouldn't be much they could do.
Eddie doesn't let this stop him or slow him down. He isn't in any pain and is living life with his foster family. He is on a couple supplements to help his joints. He is a really sweet dog that deserves a family that will spoil him!
Eddie is approximately 2 years old and weighs 9 pounds.
