⛈️ Monsoons, coyotes and the old Sears 🚜

Rain two nights in a row, is this Seattle?? There was quite the lightning show last night as monsoon storms passed through the NW Valley.

Construction fencing has gone up around the former Sears Department store and former Sears Automotive center. This is good news, as it signals the beginning of construction on the Mosaic at Arrowhead Towne Center development.

This project will include 99 Ranch Market & Teso Life, plus many other shops & restaurants.

Kelly Vu, the owner of Kawaii Sushi at 83rd & Deer Valley, is in ICE custody and facing deportation.

From 12news.com: Despite her long history in the U.S., Yu’s asylum case was denied, and a federal immigration judge issued a removal order in 2005. Her appeals were later rejected, including a final denial by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in 2016.

“Yes, I tried to get citizenship,” Yu explained. “But because I crossed the border, we have to win the case in order to qualify.”

Her latest attempt to acquire citizenship came after she married Aldo last year. However, she was detained while attending a monthly meeting with immigration officials in May, before that could be done.

Arizona Game & Fish Department recently confirmed that canine distemper cases are on the rise among the coyote population. If you see a coyote acting strangely, keep your distance as this disease is highly contagious and is spread by direct contact. (link)

51st Avenue overnight closures scheduled Aug. 13-15

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan for the following closures and restrictions for the Loop 101 widening project between 75th Avenue and I-17:

LONG-TERM RAMP CLOSURES

Westbound Loop 101 on-ramp at 59th Avenue will be closed for approximately 60 days beginning 11:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11.

Westbound Loop 101 off-ramp at 67th Avenue will be closed for approximately 60 days, beginning 11:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4.

I’m pretty active, out & about here in Arrowhead & nearby and it is hard for me to find something new, or hadn’t at least heard about.

Kitchen 7 Asian Food & Sushi was one of those places that I had no idea even existed. Of course I had to stop in and have lunch. 😎
