FOOD STUFF

I had occasion to visit Calitacos at 75th Ave & Glendale this week for an industry event (thanks for the tacos Aaron!!), and while it is not in Arrowhead, this is a taco chain to keep on your radar and be sure to visit if you are near one of their locations. Be sure to check out the full review.

EVENTS

[Various] Fall event season is in full swing, and pumpkin patches are one of the most popular themed events in Phoenix & across the state. I put together a page of the biggest & best events. (link)

[Various] Fall Arizona Restaurant Week begins on September 19th and runs through September 28th. 250 restaurants are participating, all over the Valley. (link)

An article on AZ Central ‘These are the 8 best menus to try during Fall Arizona Restaurant Week’ mentions local favorite Fabio on Fire, in Peoria.

Chef Fabio Ceschetti is offering two menus. The $44 Fuoco (“Fire”) menu starts with choices like lightly breaded calamari, porchetta with rosemary focaccia or fried short rib ravioli, followed by entrees such as a Bianca Parma pizza, spinach ravioli, pappardelle with porcini mushrooms, or orecchiette with sausage and broccolini. The $55 Grande Fuoco (“Big Fire”) menu upgrades to options like pan-seared sea scallops or tagliolini allo scoglio with clams, mussels, calamari and prawns, plus lobster tagliolini or halibut in a white wine and marinara sauce. Both menus end with a scoop of house made gelato.

Last week’s trivia question was ‘Who designed Sedona’s well-known Church of the Holy Cross?’

The answer was: Frank Lloyd Wright

The Chapel of the Holy Cross in Sedona was the vision of sculptor and devout Catholic Marguerite Brunswig Staude, who was inspired in the 1930s by the cross-like shape of New York’s Empire State Building. Strotz and Richard Hein of Anshengary with the help of Frank Lloyd Wright, but World War II halted the project. After the war, Staude turned to her home state of Arizona, securing permission to build in the red rocks of Sedona. Designed by August K. Strotz and Richard Hein of Anshen & Allen, the chapel was constructed in 1955–56, blending modernist architecture with the natural landscape, and has since become one of Arizona’s most iconic landmarks.

Pet of the Week

We are partnering with Paw Posse Animal Rescue, and will be sharing a pet each week who is available for adoption. If you are thinking of getting a new pet, please consider adoption as a way to find your next best friend.

Meet Watson

Watson was surrendered to us when his mom turned herself in for deportation. She felt it was the best thing for her to do. Watson was left with someone she worked for. He was SO matted! We picked him up and took him straight to the groomer. His skin was so itchy and red, poor guy!

Watson is all cleaned up and ready to go. He loves to go for walks. Is happiest when he is snuggled up next to his person. He is kennel trained and likes other dogs. He is always happy! Watson will need regular grooming. He loves to go on adventures and is on his best behavior when dining out with his people. He will need an ACTIVE family. He can walk/hike 2.5 miles no problem!

Watson is neutered, UTD on vaccines, microchipped, and 4DX (tick/heartworm test) negative.

Watson is approximately 2 years old and weighs 18 pounds.
